Results in full boys National Youth Champs: Hayden Power wins U16 road race

Hayden Power has taken the U16 boys road race crown at the National Youth Championships in Gorey, Co Wexford, at the weekend while Liam O'Brien of Fermoy CC claimed the U16 criterium title.

Power took the road race title in a sprint from a group, with Travis Harkness (VC Glendale) taking 2nd place, having pushed the winner all the way to the line, and James O'Sullivan (O'Leary Stone Kanturk) claiming the bronze.

In the U16 criterium title race Fermoy's O'Brien put in a really impressive performance over the 600m course and managed to lap all of the other riders in the field. He claimed the gold medal from Curtis Neill (Carn Wheelers) and Travis Harkness (VC Glendale).

The U15 boys’ road race also came down to a bunch sprint; Shelbourne Orchard CC doing a 1-2 via gold medal winner Samuel Coleman and silver medal rider Seth Dunwoody. Just behind them, Stephen Sheehan (O'Leary Stone Kanturk) claimed the bronze.

In the U15
criterium championship race, the same two Shelbourne riders again were 1st and 2nd, this time Dunwoody taking a
very clear solo victory with team mate Coleman claiming silver. Tom Kinsella of
Panduit Carrick Wheelers took the bronze medal.

In the U14 category, the Irish road race crown went to Conor Murphy (Rostrevor Mountain Bike Club), who claimed the gold medal, solo, ahead of 2nd placed Philip O’Connor (Dungarvan CC) and Callum McCaffrey (Cuchulainn CC).

The U14 criterium
title went to Max Fitzgerald (Dungarvan
CC) from Harry Hobbs (VC Glendale) and Peter Quigley (Foyle
CC) in a four-up sprint.

The U13 boys road
race also came down to a sprint from a small breakaway group, with VG Glendale
adding a gold medal to its tally after Curtis McKee was fastest to the
chequered flag.

George Sevastopulo (Sundrive Track Team) was just behind the winner in 2nd place and Hugh Og Mulhearne (Panduit Carrick Wheelers), who was also in the breakaway, claimed the bronze.

VC Glendale’s
McKee was also best in the U13 criterium title race, getting the verdict from Mulhearne of Carrick Wheelers and Jack Woods of Carlow RCC; the
medals decided in a sprint from an eight-man group.

The U12s road
race was won in a sprint, from a
small group, by Rian McCrystal
(Bellurgan Wheelers), who held off Caleb McGreevy (Apollo Cycling Team) in a tight battle for gold and
silver. Shane O’Brien (Fermoy CC) won bronze.

And in the U12s
criterium it was the same 1-2; McCrystal winning it from McGreevy again, and
doing so well out front on his own. This time Cianan Dennehy (Sliabh Luachra CC) claimed bronze.

The U11 road race
saw Tom Lane (O’Leary
Stone Kanturk) win the title in a bunch
sprint, with Darragh Murphy (Rostrevor
Mountain Bike Club) taking silver and Conor
Lynch (Sliabh Luachra CC) claiming bronze.

In the U11
criterium, again it was Lane at
the front doing the damage to take gold, out front on his own. The
silver and bronze were settled in a
two-up sprint, with Josh McClune (Team
Madigan) just beating James
Cunningham (Orwell Wheelers
Cycling Club).
