McGlinchey overcomes cramps in very high temps to win in Donegal

Chris McGlinchey has taken his second victory of the
season on home roads after proving best from the breakaway at the end of today’s
main event at the Foyle GP in Co Donegal.

The Spectra Wiggle p/b Vitus ride was cramping up nearing
the finish in Killea, as the very high temperatures took their toll, but he
kept it together for long enough to win the day.

About 20km in the main event, promoted by Foyle Cycling
Club, the early attacks resulted in a five-man group going clear, with eventual
winner McGlinchey among its ranks.

That breakaway group contained serious firepower. It included
in-form junior Dean Harvey (VC Glendale) and Marcus Christie (Performance SBR), who has been in fantastic form against the
watch, as well as two very strong engines in Mark McGinley (Four Masters
CC) and Mitchell McLaughlin (Swiftcarbon Pro Cycling).

The breakaway group was clear for about 60km and combined
well to ensure they stayed away to fight it out for victory. While the final
20km saw some attacks from the front group, they were neutralised.

And when the leaders came to the finish for a sprint, McGlinchey took the verdict ahead of McGinley, Harvey, Christie and McLaughlin.

McGlinchey (27), who represented Ireland at the eRacing World Championships earlier this year, adds today's win to the victory he took at lat month's Tour of the Mournes.
