One of Ireland's rapidly emerging riders at elite level, Dean Harvey has won the stage 2 TT at Rás Mhaigh Eo. The Spellman Dublin Port rider, in his first season out of the juniors, claimed a clear victory today on the hilly course in Westport, leading the way by 14 seconds from Conor Murnane of UCD Cycling Club.

Daire Feeley of EvoPro Racing, Ireland's top-ranked A1 cyclist over the last two seasons, took 3rd place just a fraction of a second slower than Murnane. Joel Luke, another of the UCD men, was 4th at 18 seconds. Loughlin Campion of Ashbourne Wheelers took 5th at 18 seconds while Paul Kennedy, already a winner this year, rounded out the top 6 for Burren CC at 20 seconds.

The important result in that top six on the stage was that of Feeley, as he was in the two-man move with EvoPro Racing team mate Mitchell McLaughlin that gained time on this morning's opening stage. They were 1st and 2nd on the stage and gained 47 seconds on the breakaway men they had attacked, and more than two minutes on most of the rest of the field.

While McLaughlin won this morning's stage 1 from Feeley and took the race lead into the TT later today, he finished 22nd in the test at 33 seconds. That saw him lose the leader's jersey to Feeley. However, McLaughlin is now 2nd overall, some 33 seconds down on Feeley, with tomorrow's final stage remaining.

UCD’s Luke has now moved up to 3rd overall at 56 seconds and he is followed by other very experienced strongmen and those who have really impressed this year. Darragh McCarter is 4th for Spellman Dublin Port at 58 seconds with Mark Shannon 5th at 1:07, Lacey Cup winner Danny MacDonald, also Burren CC, in 6th.

Tim O’Regan, who was 3rd on this morning’s stage, is 7th at 1:14 while Liam Crowley, who enjoyed a great season last year and is now with UCD, is 8th at 2:21 followed by team mate Murnane at 2:31.

Today's TT stage winner, Harvey, does not feature near the top of the GC as his team had McCarter in the breakaway this morning. That meant Harvey rode back in the bunch to cover the counter attacks and when the breakaway survived, Harvey lost time.

Feeley now has the race lead and he would be hard to shift from that position in any circumstances given the performances he has produced in recent years. And with a team in Mayo that includes McLaughlin, US rider Eamon Lucas, Cian Keogh, and young gun Tom Moriarty, the former Irish junior champion, Feeley has a good crew to call upon tomorrow if the need arises.
