Results Mondello Bikeworx Series
After a series of strong results to date in 2017, Sean Murnane has taken his first win of the season.
The Scott-Orwell junior rider was best at the end of the Mondello Bikeworx Series in Co Kildare.
He took victory from Shane Foley of Carlow RCC and Eoghan Magee of NRPT-Titan Containers.
Murnane has just ridden the Junior Tour of Ireland on the Leinster selection. And having taken a top 10 on stage 4 he has come out of that race in good form.
He came close to victory early in the season at the Waller Cup in Bohermeen, Co Meath. But he had to be content with 2nd on the day.
And while he has been in the results since then, victory had eluded him until this evening.
It was a night of fast racing that saw the scratch group fail to make contact with those ahead in the handicap event.
When a break pulled away from the A3 bunch and got a gap, Murnane went after it on his own. He rode across solo and that was to prove a key effort.
The A3 escape caught the A4s and some of the riders, including Murnane, went through them.
With three laps remaining there were still four leading; Murnane, Foley, Magee and John Mahon (Fixx Rouleurs).
And when it looked like they would stay clear to contest the honours, Murnane decided he would take flight.
He made his move with just over a lap to go. And when he gapped those he was with he put his head down and held it all the way.
