Aaron Rafferty (Moynalty CC) has kept it in the Royal County this even when he won the Ballivor Grand Prix, promoted by Navan Road Club, after 55km of all-out action.
When the handicaps were quickly cancelled out, after a very fast start, attack after attack was fired off the front only to be chased down by a determined bunch. However, after a time those attacks began to have an impact and shaped the outcome of the race.
The A1-A2 group gave a six-minute handicap to the limit group, that they were at the front of the race within one passage of the circuit. Once the race was together, the action was off the front but it wasn't until very late in the contest that eventual winner Rafferty and Ronan Killeen (Lucan CRC) got clear in a two-man move.
They put their heads down and drilled it towards the chequered flag, holding off the bunch to fight it out for 1st and 2nd. That tussle was won by Rafferty, who got the better of Killeen in the final sprint. Behind them, the bunch sprinted it out for 3rd place; Daire Feeley (All human-VeloRevolution) proving fastest and taking the final step on the podium.
