Conor Hennebry (Dan Morrissey-MIG-Pactimo) has opened his account for the year after winning Rás Luimní in a two-up sprint against Paul Kennedy (Burren CC).
They arrived at the finish together to duke it out for
victory in the main even in wet conditions after they were initially part of a
seven-rider breakaway that gained a significant advantage on the main peloton.
Hennebry and Kennedy proved best in the attacks on the final lap that saw the breakaway splinter and the eventual winner and runner-up pull clear.
They finished just a few seconds up on Mark Shannon (Burren CC) and Aaron Rafferty (Spin-11 Chain Reaction Racing Team), who were in the breakaway and took 3rd and 4th respectively. Another of the breakaway men, James O’Sullivan (Velo Revolution Racing Team) was 5th. Padraig O’Sullivan of promoting club Limerick CC won the sprint from the chasing group to take 6th place.
The A3-Junior
race saw Damien Culhane (Newcastle West Cycling Club) take victory with
a solo attack. He held off the small chasing group by a few seconds with Niall
McLoughlin (Westport Covey Wheelers Cycling Club) winner the sprint for 2nd
from junior international Liam O’Brien (Fermoy Cycling Club).
Lorcan Daly (Killarney Cycling Club) was also in the
chasing group and took 4th, with David Culloty (Velo Revolution Racing Team) in
5th and Bryan Nolan (Limerick Cycling Club) in 6th.
The A4 race came down to a bunch sprint won by Mario Gordillo Cortines (O’Leary Stone Kanturk) from Eamon Kelly (Blarney Cycling Club) and Hugh McSwiney (Blarney Cycling Club). Ewan Buckley (Killarney Cycling Club) was 4th and Mark Curran (Unattached Munster) placed 6th.
More to come.
