Matthew Teggart of UK-based Continental team WiV SunGod clinched victory today in the main event of a windy John Haldane Memorial held in Newry, Co Down. In a tight finish, Teggart just about pipped it ahead of 18-year-old Odhrán Doogan (Team Caldwell) and Nathan Mullan of Dromara CC in third.
Nearing the finish, around ten breakaway A1s battered against the wind to open the final sprint, with Teggart ahead. Doogan almost stole the win from under his nose but in the final few seconds some strong legwork from Teggart fended him off to secure the win for the Banbridge local.
