French teenager Owen Musset has taken
victory in the main event at the Donal Crowley Memorial in Blarney, Co Cork,
today. Musset, riding for French team La Crêpe de Brocéliande-BLC, made the winning breakaway and then
attacked that group to finish solo just ahead of those sprinting for 2nd place.

Andy Maguire (Team Stafford Bonded) came out best in that gallop for the runner-up spot, with Mark O’Donovan of host club Blarney CC placing 3rd from Conor Hennebry (Dan Morrissey-Pactimo), Paul Kennedy (Burren CC) and Conor Kissane (Killarney CC).

The handicapped event was run over an
88km large loop and saw the key move unfold at the halfway point when a large
breakaway group of about 10 riders went clear.

Maguire,
the former national criterium champion, was especially active off the front of
the breakaway as the race entered the business end.

He
attacked with 25km to go and rode off the front for about 5km before being
caught. While he went again with about 10km remaining, he was once again
caught.

Others to try their hand with attacks, in what was an aggressive final, were Hennebry and Kissane, though both were recaptured by the breakaway. Musset then put in a dig with 1.5km to go, managing to open a gap and holding it all the way for victory.
