Relentless Eddie Dunbar roadshow rockets forward; wins Cobh encounter by 6½ minutes

Eddie Dunbar has torn the field to shreds this afternoon in Cobh at the Leahy Cup, romping to victory by over six and a half minutes from a five-man chase group.

They were led in by his O'Leary's Stone Kanturk team mate and fellow international Dylan O'Brien while another promising junior international Stephen Shanahan (Limerick CC) rounded out the podium.

Eoin O'Connell continues his impressive run; the Blarney man taking fourth to coincide with his third-place finish at the Blarney criterium last weekend, second in the road race and runner-up slot at the Coachford Classic a week prior to that.

The man won stayed with Eddie Dunbar the longest today, first year junior Simon Twomey put in a very good account of himself but was eventually dropped after a lap and a half.

He eventually got swept up by the chase-group to take a very good fifth.

With four juniors in the front five of the A2/A3 race, the standard in those ranks appears to be ever improving.

The result and those of recent weeks, also offer an indication of how competitive this year's National Championships and Junior Tour of Ireland will be.
