Irish track cycling may not yet have repeated the success of Martyn Irvine two years ago when he won the country’s first world track title for over 100 years, but that doesn’t mean the standard is not improving.
Cycling Ireland just ratified no fewer than eight new national track records set by individuals and teams in competition around the world.
The latest national team is arriving in New Zealand at present for the next round of the UCI World Cup.
Those present will be hoping to further lower the national standards in their respective events.

Chief amongst those are the women of the team pursuit squad who have gone faster than any Irish foursome in the history of the sport.
Their recent 4mins 31.666secs for the 4km test was more than eight seconds faster than the old marker,
Josie Knight, Caroline Ryan, Melanie Spath and Lydia Boylan set that new standard at the European Championships in Switzerland just last month.
They are still in with a chance of Olympic qualification, as is sprinter Eoin Mullen.
His new record for the 1km standing start was also set at the Europeans and is among the new markers, below.
