Colm Cassidy has further underlined his standing as the best time trial rider on the domestic scene in Co Wicklow this afternoon by clocking a blistering time of 19mins 22secs for the Danny O'Shea 10 Mile Memorial TT.
The UCD CC man set a new event record, shaving 25 seconds off former world track champion Martyn Irvine's marker set last year. That outing 12 months ago was Irvine's first race after breaking his hip at the Tour of Taiwan earlier in the season.
The Newtownards man, based in Denver and riding for Unitedhealthcare, has since won a silver at the track worlds and bronze at the Europeans.
Cassidy led home a UCD clean sweep today, not the first time they have achieved that this season; with veteran Greg Swinand coming home in second place in a time of 19:40.
Ian Richardson, who the week before last was 12th in the World University Championships TT in Poland, was third today just one second down on Swinand.
Cassidy's victory comes just three weeks after he took the silver medal in the elite time trial at the National Road Championships in Westmeath. On that occasion he was beaten to gold by just four seconds by Michael Hutchinson (InGear).
Today's winner also won the Naas CC Open 20km TT in June by 2½ minutes.
