Navan Road Club and Emyvale Cycling Club have teamed up in a bid to ensure numbers are strong for the main men's race at the next round of the Cycling Ireland National Road Series.

After a very competitive opening two rounds – at the Des Hanlon Classic in Carlow and the Darrach McCarthy Solicitors promotion in Knockaderry, Co Limerick – the third round of the 2022 series takes place later this month in Co Meath.

Navan Road Club will host that round, the Meath Grand Prix, and along with Emyvale CC they have rejigged their separate racing schedules for that day, Sunday May 22nd.

The Meath Grand Prix will now host the national series events only. That means there will be racing for A1-A2 men, women and for male juniors only. The undercard, non-series, races for A3s and A4s have been dropped by Navan Road Club.

Likewise, Emyvale CC has dropped races that it was planning for A1-A2 men on the same day. It will, however, still run its A3-Junior, A4, women's and masters races at its Emyvale GP on the same day.

The changes mean A1-A2 men are being catered for at only one race in the general region, the Meath GP. The changes have been made in a bid to ensure numbers are strong for the National Road Series event in Meath after recent races were cancelled for lack of entries.

And in return for Emyvale cancelling their A1-A2 race, Navan Road Club is cancelling its racing for A3-A4 riders. It is encouraging all of the cyclists in those categories to go and support the Emyvale races on that day.

There will still be other racing on that day for A1-A2 men as Newcastle West CC is hosting the PJ O’Riordan Memorial Race in Tournafulla, Co Limerick.

However, the cooperation of Navan Road Club and Emyvale CC means A1-A2 racers will not be spread across two events in the same general region on the same day, which should ensure a good field at the men's race at the Meath GP.
