Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) has won the final stage of the Tour de France at a canter on the Champs-Élysées today after Dylan Groenewegen (BikeExchange-Jayco) went far too early and faded to 2nd place.
Alexandr Kristoff (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux) picked up the final place on the podium today after a tussle with Caleb Ewan with about 300m to go unsettled the Australian Lotto Soudal sprinter and effectively ended his sprint.
While Groenewegen had the best lead out, his final man - Luka Mezgec - finished his effort much too early, leaving Groenewegen on the front far too soon, with Philipsen coming off the Dutch rider's wheel and easily winning the stage, his second victory of the race.
Wout van Aert (Jumbo Visma) completely opted out of the final sprint in favour of drifting off the back with his team and celebrating their overall victory with Jonas Vingegaard.
The five remaining riders from the team - yellow jersey and 2022 Tour champion Vingegaard, green jersey Van Aert, stage 19 winner Christophe Laporte, Sepp Kuss and Tiesj Benoot - rolled over the line together at the back of the field punching the air.
More to come.
