Philip Lavery, seen here on the left in action earlier in the year, has bagged a very useful result on a hilly course ahead of his trial with French pro team Cofidis.
Dubliner Philip Lavery can look forward to his trial period with French pro team Cofidis with great confidence after taking third spot in a very testing hilly French race today, Tuesday.
The AC Bisontine rider was bested only in the sprint to the line in the 141km Grand Prix de Cours-la-Ville in the east of the country. The race was 10 laps over a testing circuit with a 7km climb each time, perhaps a terrain that would not be normally expected to suit a power rider like Lavery.
However, he was comfortable on the ascent and had plenty in his legs at the finish in taking third place.

Lavery will officially start a stagiaire, or trial to the end of the season, with Cofidis on Thursday. His first assignment will be the Vuelta a Burgos in Spain from August 7th to 11th.

That race consists of five road stages and with just a few third category climbs on the opening four stages, Lavery will hopefully have time to adjust to his surroundings.
However, the final stage 5 is an absolute bruiser, at 175kms and containing seven categorised climbs including a summit finish.
However, Lavery has been in pristine form in France so far this season, appears to be mentally up for the challenge and judging by his ride on today’s climbs he appears to have lost none of his condition as the season has worn on.
