The Irish trio of Philip Deignan (Unitedhealthcare), Ronan McLaughlin and Sean Downey (both An Post-Chainreaction) have finished in the main bunch on the second stage of the Volta ao Algarve today, Friday.

With just one climb on today's 195km stage the race stayed in tact and was won in a bunch sprint by new overall leader Theo Bos (Blanco) in a time just under five hours.

Deignan had helped to bring his team's sprinter Alessandro Bazzana to the front for a lead out in what was a very fast finale and the Irishman still came over the line in 19th place.

He appears to be in good shape as the race heads for most testing terrain tomorrow, with five climbs including a summit finish.
