Philip Deignan looks very focussed, second in line, during Team Sky's team time trial effort that opened the Vuelta a Espana today.
Dan Martin's Garmin-Sharp and Philip Deignan's Team Sky were well off the pace in the team time trial that opened the Vuelta today, Saturday.
But after Martin crashed out of the Giro d'Italia in Belfast at the same stage in May, both riders and Irish fans will have been relieved to see the back of what was a very technical opening effort today.
The 12.6km team test in Jerez de la Frontera was littered with roundabouts and even contained a cobbled section and very shiny looking asphalt surface; all of which would have been lethal in the wet.
But thankfully the rain held off and the Irishmen got home safely; a scenario that will undoubtedly come as a great relief to Martin.
His sqaud was 18th of the 22 team field, losing 41 seconds to winners Movistar. Deignan faired slightly better with Team Sky, relinquishing just 27 seconds to the winners.

Dan Martin's Garmin Sharp were well off the pace today, but the Irishman won't care as his speciality is when the road goes up.
