Peter McColgan seals Omagh Three Day with stage win

St Tiernan's man Peter McColgan sealed outright victory at the Omagh Three Day by winning the final stage.

The St Tiernan’s man broke clear solo towards the end of yesterday’s stage 4.

And in winning the day he strengthened his grip on the yellow jersey in the A4 event.

Having won the opening stage on Friday evening in a bunch sprint, he held the yellow jersey all the way.

He was 2nd in the Saturday morning TT; beaten only by Phoenix CC’s Daniel Daly.

And when he finished in the bunch just 3 seconds behind winner Maurice Sunderland (Foyle CC) on Saturday afternoon’s stage 3, he had just yesterday’s final leg to contend with.

After a defensive start to that stage, McColgan would break clear in a group of six.

On the last climb he showed his strength by getting clear of those he was with. For the remaining seven miles he put his head down in a bid to hold off the chasers.

Two chasing groups behind would merge to form a 14-man group. However, the leader held on to win solo.

Kyle Fisher (Lakeland CC) would take 2nd, with Colin Fox of Harps CC in 3rd place.

Fox would also win the climbers’ classification. McColgan took the points competition to add to his overall victory and two stage wins.
