Peden, Murphy take 10 mile TT wins as junior Rafferty impresses

George Peden extended his run of wins against the clock as he proved fastest once again at the latest round of the Ernie Magwood Super 6 Time Trial League.

While he won the men's event in a time of 19:17 for the 10 mile course in Ballymena, Co Antrim, national champion Kelly Murphy took the women's race on the night.

The Storey Racing rider put in a time of 21:23, which was 14th fastest in the mixed male and female field of 87 riders.

In the men's event Peden (Prologue RT) won from Lindsay Watson (Powerhouse Sport), who was 14 seconds down on the winner, with Gareth O'Neill (Newry Wheelers) in 3rd place some 23 seconds off Peden.

In the women's race Murphy won by 46 seconds from former national champion Eileen Burns (Ballymena RC) and Jane Wilkinson (Bann Wheelers), who recorded a time of 23:59.

Emerging road and cyclocross junior rider Darren Rafferty was right in the mix near the top of the leader board, though he is a first-year junior.

The Island Wheelers teenager was 4th fastest on the night, and first junior, in a time of 20:34.
