Paul O'Reilly has won the third round of the Supercross
Cup; the Dan Morrissey-MIG-Pactimo rider extending his prolific run this
season.
O’Reilly was today taking his third straight win, from
three rounds, in the Supercross Cup in Kiltiernan, Co Dublin.
He took the honours from Sean Nolan, the Navan Road Club
teenager who won at the Leinster Cyclocross Series in Meath last weekend.
Graham Boyd (McConvey Cycles), who has been in winning
form himself of late in Ulster, rounded out the podium.
The ten-lap encounter saw O’Reilly maintain a consistently
hard effort at the front from gun to tape.
Behind him, eventual runner-up Sean Nolan also rode a
very strong race but saw O’Reilly pull clear of him when he lost significant
ground on the second and sixth laps.
O’Reilly and Nolan got by far the best start of the
favourites with just one second separating them after the opening lap and most
of the other fancied men losing 10 to 20 seconds to them.

On the second lap O’Reilly laid the foundations of his
win; putting 19 seconds into Nolan, with the young Meath man playing catch-up
from that point.
They were evenly matched for the next three laps, with O’Reilly
grabbing a few more seconds and Nolan then pulling them back, though the gap
gained on the second lap remained.
And on the sixth lap O’Reilly once again held his relentless
pace while Nolan was slower and lost another 19 seconds to the lone leader.
That put O’Reilly almost 40 seconds clear of Nolan with
four laps remaining, and with Boyd never too far behind Navan man in 2nd place.
However, while Nolan gained between three and six seconds
per lap on O’Reilly for the remainder of the race, O’Reilly was too far ahead.
He won it by 24 seconds from Nolan, with Boyd another 32
seconds back in 3rd place; the McConvey Cycles man having lost all of that time
on the opening lap.
The evergreen Alan Bingham (Newry Wheelers) claimed 4th
place on the day, some 1:20 down on O’Reilly and 24 seconds off the man he was
chasing; namely Boyd.
Tim O’Regan (Team Worc) was next, taking 5th place some
31 seconds down on Bingham.
