Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) has won Paris-Roubaix solo for the second year in a row, this time with a near 60km solo move to extend what has been an incredible run, including winning Tour of Flanders.
Van der Poel took flight from the lead group, from an awfully long way out today, and though initial efforts were made to chase him down, or attack in pursuit, his team mate Jasper Philipsen neutralised those moves.
And though Philipsen attacked from the chasing group, with about 13km to go, he was closed down by Mads Pedersen (Lidl Trek) with Nils Politt (UAE Team Emirates) in tow.
That trio went to the line, some three minutes down on the winner, for a three-up sprint, won by Philipsen from Pedersen and then Politt; a repeat of the 1-2 for Alpecin-Deceuninck of 12 months ago.
