Packed schedule of crits, TTs and road races on Irish scene in week ahead

There is a busy schedule of racing in the week ahead, with TT action, evening criterium and road racing all on offer across the country over the next seven days.

This evening - Wednesday, June 11th - the second round of the Kirkistown Series is being promoted by North Down CC, sponsored by Fit Studio NI. Run on the Kirkistown Race Circuit in Newtownards, Co Down, there’s kids racing at 6.30pm, an event for U12s at 7pm and then a main event for U16, U16, junior and senior riders at 7.30pm.

Tomorrow - Thursday, June 12th - the third round of the Ernie Magwood Super Six, the 10 mile TT series, takes place,

Island Wheelers Cycling Club hosts the event, with the first rider off at 7:01pm. Sign-on opens from 6pm at race HQ at Crankill Rd, Glarryford, Ballymena, Co Antrim.

On Saturday, June 14th, the Paddy Doran Youth Omnium 2025 takes place on the Sundrive Road velodrome in Dublin. Riders will be grouped based on ability and the event is open to male and female riders from U10 to U16.

It is comprised of the flying 200m TT, scratch race, kilo dash and points race. The rider with the highest points total will win the Paddy Doran Memorial Perpetual Cup.

A new Dublin Bay Cycling Perpetual Cup which will go to the highest scoring female rider and the event is being supported by Joe Daly Cycles and Dublin Bay Cycling.

Also on Saturday, the Leinster TT Championships are being held in Enniscorthy over a 10 mile TT route, promoted by Wexford Wheelers. There are medals on offer in a range of categories including junior, senior, M40, M50, M60 and in the combined women's category.

The championships incorporate the latest round of the Para Revolution Cup, for Para C (solo), Para B (tandem) and Para H (handcycle). Race headquarters is at Kilcannon Garden Centre, Old Dublin Rd, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford. First rider is off 11am - with the Para riders up first - and sign on opens at 9.30am.

There is also TT action in Connacht on Saturday, with the Seven Spring Open 25 Mile TT, promoted by Seven Springs CC. The club is running a two-category events; for those on TT bike and riders on road bikes.

The out and back course is Kilreekil-Ballinalsoe-Kilreekil. It starts at 11am and may prove a nice tune-up for many as we approach the National Road Championships.

On Saturday evening, Galway Bay CC is organised its annual Highfield Criterium at Highfield Park. There are youth races, starting from 3pm, and racing for C1, C2 and C3 riders, starting between 4pm and 6pm.

On Sunday, perhaps the biggest race of the weekend is being promoted by Banbridge CC; the Noel Teggart Memorial, on the 31km Banbridge-Rathfriland-Annaclone circuit.

The feature C1 race will complete four laps for a total race distance of 124km. The C2 race will cover three laps, totaling 93km. The C3 race will cover two laps of the same circuit for a race distance of 62km.

All races will depart the race HQ at Banbridge Hockey Club together at 11:50am and will roll neutralised to the race start on the Rathfriland Rd. Racing for the C1s will commence at 12:00, with the C2 and C3 races following close after.

Look ahead to next week, on Tuesday night - June 16th - the Corkagh Park Women’s League is being promoted at Corkagh Park, Dublin. There is a combined A and B race, with handicaps, starting at 7.15pm.

Also next Tuesday, June 16th, Dublin Ravens CC is holding the next round of the Mondello Series in Mondello Park, Co Kildare. This will be the fourth round of the series and it starts at 7.30pm.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top six riders on the night and first unplaced C2 and C3 riders. And the stickybottle primes will be up for grabs at 20 mins and 40 mins of racing.

This day week - Wednesday, June 18th - Ards Cycling Club is promoting its Ards Town Centre Crit Races from 6pm in Newtownards.

There are youth races for U8s, U10s and U14s starting at 6.15pm with U14s and U16s getting underway at 6.35pm. And at 7pm there is racing for C3s and women incorporating the Ulster Championships. The C1-C2 race - also incorporating the Ulster Champs - starts at 7.45pm.
