Liam O'Brien, the Irish junior cyclocross champion, has won the latest round of the elite Munster Cyclocross Series in Co Limerick. The Fermoy CC rider got ahead early at Limerick Racecourse and continued to turn the screw throughout the contest.
In the end he claimed victory by about one minute, with Sam Bolger (Killarney CC) taking the runner-up spot and Dillon Corkery, riding for PI Cycles, rounding out the podium on the day.
While Bolger closed up on lone leader O'Brien around the midway point, getting to within about 15 seconds of the eventual winner, Cork teenager O'Brien kept pressing and pulled away once more.
The women's race was a tighter contest, with Sally Drennan of (Midleton CTC) winning by just eight seconds from Márcia Salvador (TC Racing). Sienna O’Dwyer (Limerick CC) was 3rd at 14 seconds.
In the 'B Race' Emil Tyszecki (MBCC) claimed victory from junior rider Aaron Buckley (Killarney CC) with Mick Davis of promoting club Greenmount CA in 3rd place.
