Niall McLoughlin (Westport Covey Wheelers) is leading the Cycling Ireland junior rankings; the 17-year-old having been promoted to the A2 ranks after his breakthrough performance at Kerry Group Rás Mumhan.
McLoughlin rode in Kerry as part of the Irish junior team, winning stage 3 and placing 2nd on both stages 2 and 4 riding against most of the best elite riders in the country. He also won the Des Hanlon Memorial earlier in the season.
Quillan Donnelly (Usher Irish Road Club), a first year junior, is second in the rankings on 67 points while Patrick O'Loughlin (Panduit Carrick Wheelers) is 3rd on 62 points.

Donnelly's potential has been very clear to see just a couple of months into his junior career as he has been a constant in the breakaways and in the results. Last weekend he opened his account for 2022 with victory on the opening stage of the Kanturk Three Day, which was eventually won overall by fellow junior Liam O'Brien (Fermoy CC).

O'Loughlin, now 3rd in the rankings, began to break through last year when he was elected for the European Junior Track Championships - in a team that including McLoughlin. This year Carrick's O'Loughlin has kicked on again, including taking victory at the Seamus Kennedy Memorial.
The junior rankings are unusual in that riders can be A4, A3 and A2. If they are promoted up a category, their points go back to zero. It means McLoughlin, who tops the rankings, is on zero points as he has just been promoted to A2 and is the only junior rider in the country who is now an A2.
Similarly, juniors who began the season at A4 and have been promoted to A3 may appear on the rankings listed below as A3 riders with zero points if they have not had time yet to score more points since their promotion. We have marked McLoughlin as an A2 and then below him the next tranche of riders are A3s, with the final tranche A4s.
