After taking the yellow jersey on stage 1 of the Newcastle West Knights Masters' Two Day in Co Limerick yesterday, Blarney ace Robert Forrest retained it in the time trial later in the day.
He reached the finish of the morning 70km road stage - five laps of a flat 14km course - in a three man move with Limerick's Tom Shanahan and Oriol Carbo of Henry J Lyons.
That trio came home a signifcant 28 seconds ahead of the main field. However, Carbo was penalised 30 seconds on the stage for crossing the white line a number of times.

In the 8km time trial later in the day, Derek Ferguson of Kings Moss took the stage by a huge winning margin; coming home 23 seconds ahead of yellow jersey Forrest with Carbo in 3rd place.
That result meant Forrest retained his overall lead. He is 4 seconds up on Ferguson and 23 on Shanahan, who was 10th in the time trial.
Carbo is 4th overall with the hilly final stage to come; some 33 seconds down on Forrest. He would have been 2nd at just 3 seconds but for the penalty on the opening stage.
