While synonymous with the sport of horse racing, Punchestown Racecourse in Co Kildare will this weekend play host to the latest cyclocross race of the winter season.
The venue has been confirmed for round 4 of the ‘Fixx Coffeehouse Supercross Series’ on Sunday after a number of venues, including the Curragh, previously fell through.
The Kildare location for the latest round may also encourage entries from riders who live outside those regions within easy reach of the Dublin venues used so far this year.
Punchestown will offer a different challenge, with race organises Team WORC telling us that this round should suit road riders. Team WORC will be setting up the course and have devised a very fast route.
A much bigger portion of the race will take place on firmer ground than that seen in Tymon Park and Swords in recent weeks.
The first section of the course will involve near limit speed cornering and with no hills to speak of, the race should be much faster than traditional ‘cross races and should not split up quite as much.
The regular start times apply; 11.30am for the B Race and 1.00pm for the A Race.
Those coming into the venue should use the Punchestown race course entrance off the Naas to Blessington road.
Entries are filling up so if you plan to ride it might be best to act now; you can enter by clicking here.
