Cycling Ireland has named a new-looking Irish national team for the upcoming elite European Track Championships, with some new names coming into the line-up after the Olympic cycle and Games of last season.
With the team pursuit squad having formed the main component of Irish track cycling's approach in recent years, that looks set to remain the same, but with some new riders.
In the team for the Europeans in Belgium later this month are: Lara Gillespie, Mia Griffin, Erin Creighton, Esther Wong, Aoife O'Brien and Emma Jeffers.
Wong and Jeffers have both recently declared for Ireland, having ridden under Great Britain licences before, and they are expected to become part of the team pursuit line-up going forward.
Wong, a first-year U23, has already ridden for Ireland in both cyclocross and on the track in recent months and, as a strong road rider is also expected to feature on the road for the national team.
Jeffers, who has won a series of races in Britain and rides on the road for Liv AlUla Jayco Continental, is also expected to be part of the national team's plans on both road and track going forward.
The elite Europeans taken place in Heusden-Zolder from February 12th to 16th.
More to come.
