New junior riders win their first elite races at GP Brian Kinning

Aine Doherty was one of two newly minted juniors won won their first elite races - at the GP Brian Kinning in Belfast today

In their first races as junior riders, Aine Doherty and Samuel Coleman have won the elite events at the GP Brian Kinning today in Belfast, which kicked off the domestic 2022-23 cyclocross season.

Coleman and his fellow U16 Orchard CC team mate, Seth Dunwoody, have been among the best U16 riders on the road this year and Coleman did not disappoint in his first outing against the elites today.

He claimed victory, after seven laps of racing, by 42 seconds from race promoter Glenn Kinning (Kinning Cycles). Another of the leading juniors in he field, Curtis Neill (Carn Wheelers) was 3rd just four seconds behind Kinning.

In the elite women's race, Doherty (VC Glendale) emerged victorious, over five laps, by 2½ minutes from Caoimhe May (Orwell Wheelers). Stephanie Roche (Scott Bright Motor Group) in 3rd place a further 13 seconds back.
