Almost exactly 12 months after Eileen Burns broke Caroline Ryan's long-standing Irish record for the 10 mile time trial, new national champion Anna Turvey has set a blistering new marker.
The UK-based rider, who only recently declared for Ireland, yesterday recorded a time of 19:09 on the V718 course in Hull.
Turvey - who won the Irish elite TT crown at the National Road Championships in Kilcullen, Co Kildare, in June - has bettered the record of Burns by 1:13, subject to ratification.
Ballymena rider Burns recorded 20:22 at Swift Open TT also on the V718, bettering Caroline Ryan's record by 41 seconds; a record that had stood since 2011.
Turvey is hitting form at exactly the right time as she has been selected to ride the TT for Ireland at the European Championships in France next week.
She was the only elite woman named in the 19-rider squad for the men's and women's junior, U23 and elite road races and TTs in France.
Meanwhile, while Turvey was posting her time yesterday former Rás winner Marcin Białobłocki was making his own piece of history.
The Polish strongman, nicknamed The Machine, set an astonishing time of 16:35 for the same 10 mile TT. It betters the British competition record held by Movistar TT specialist Alex Dowsett.
In May 2014 he set a time of 17:20. Białobłocki's new record, a game changer if ratified, was done in an average speed of 58km per hour.
The Pole, who is based in the UK and rides for One Pro Cycling, won the Rás in 2013 and has won a total of three stages in the race.
He was 9th in the TT at the World Championships last year when he also won the Polish national TT title and the TT stage at the Tour of Poland.
He was 2nd in the Polish TT nationals this year and won the TT stage at the Ronde van Midden Nederland (2.2) in Holland last month.
