The Irish team went into the penultimate stage of the Junior Tour of Ireland today with the yellow jersey but has unfortunately lost it on the Woodcock Hill stage.
Nicolas Rivard of the Hot Tubes team came through to take
2nd place on the stage today behind his team mate, and solo winner, Magus
Sheffield.
And because gaps opened in what remained of the peloton
as it climbed Gallows Hill to the finish line behind Sheffield, race leader
today Nathan Keown (Team Ireland) has lost his yellow jersey to today’s
runner-up Rivard.
Sheffield is now in the points classification jersey
after his win today and Travis Stedman (Greenmount CA), who was 3rd today
behind Sheffield and Rivard, has the best young rider jersey. Sheffield also
leads the climbers’ classification.

Today the eventual stage winner Magnus Sheffield (Hot Tubes) forged ahead from a two-man group before the final climb to the finish line.
Classy US rider Sheffield had attacked over the early categorised 2 climb of Sallybank with Quinn Simmons (Lux Sideshow) for company.
Both riders were just over two minutes down this morning
and they only ever gained a maximum gap today of slight north of one minute.
For most of the stage the advantage enjoyed by the two
men up front was just under a minute.
While two large groups would get clear on the peloton,
without yellow jersey Keown, during the course of stage and pull out decent
gaps on the bunch, they were soon caught.

He began that final ascent on his own over own minute
ahead of a reduced peloton containing the race leader Nathan Keown and his Team
Ireland team mates.
While Sheffield had been out front today for a long time
before reaching the base of the climb, he had the legs finish the job.
He fought all the way to the top and took the chequered
flag for a great stage victory as the peloton split behind him.
Next over the finish line was his Hot Tubes team mate
Nicolas Rivard, followed by Travis Stedman of one of Greenmount CA.
He was followed, in 4th place, by Aidan McNeill of the
Swift team. And then came Harrison Powell (BC Eastern), Joe Pidcock (Fensham
Howes) and Kyle Chromy of Lux Sideshow.
In 8th place came the main who almost won stage 3 but
celebrated too early, Isaac Peatfield; the Green Jersey team man show he can
climb as well as sprint.
In 9th place, and with dossard 1 on his back, was Kevin
McCambridge of the Irish national team. And round out the top 10 was Matt
Kingston (Fensham Howes).
Mark Smith, the Verge Leinster rider who finished in the
stage 2 breakaway, was the only other Irish rider apart from McCambridge in the
top 20 today.
