Stephen Murray has won his first ever race as an A1 rider on home roads today, Sunday, taking the Dungarvan CC-promoted event in Waterford.

The Strata3-VeloRevolution rider attacked the lead group inside the closing two kilometres of the main event; proving too strong for the others on the incline to the finish line.

And with a very strong finishing surge he just about managed to hold on for the win from ASEA-Wheelworx man Stephen Shanahan who brought home a select strongman's group.

Robin Kelly (Waterford Racing Club) rounded out the podium.

In the women's race it was another local rider - and team mate of Kelly's - who took the honours; Emma Walsh of Waterford Racing Team coming home solo for a very strong win.

She had broken clear with Autumn Collins (Starley Racing) just inside the final 15km; the duo combining well to build what always looked like a racing-winning gap.

And on the long climb up to the finish it was Walsh who proved strongest.

She powered clear alone to take victory with about 40 seconds to spare on Collins, who held off the fast finishing chasers to take 2nd place.

Just behind her, Walsh's team mate Claudia Lane took the sprint for 3rd making it a 1-3 for the local women.

We’ll have more later.
