Motoring Paul Kennedy laps field in Limerick for impressive win

Paul Kennedy (Burren CC) added another victory to his 2026 tally after storming around the Limerick City Course at the Reddy A+U City Centre Criterium at the weekend.

He took his latest win after already claiming victory in the Lacey Cup in March and the overall win at Rás Maigh Eo last month; the 48-year-old in fantastic form after a change of coach and change to his training over the winter months.

The race was run over 55 minutes plus five laps, with Kennedy going clear early in the contest and settling in to building his advantage out front solo.

He was then joined by young team mate Philip O’Connor, with the two Burren CC riders combining well to ensure the gap back to the chasing group extended significantly.

Junior rider John O’Mahony (Newcastlewest CC) and Arnaud Dumoulin (O’Leary Stone Kanturk) were active at the front of the chase group in a bid to try and contain the two leaders.

As the race progressed, Kennedy left O’Connor, who was caught O’Mahony, after he had distanced those he was with.

Kennedy won the day after lapping the field, with O’Connor winning the two-up sprint from O’Mahony to decide the order of 2nd and 3rd on the night.

Liam Kilkenny (Galway Bay CC) was best of the rest, taking 4th place from Dumoulin, Ben O’Keeffe (Newcastlewest CC) and Daniel Bresnan (Greenmount CA) in that group.
