Moore tops quality podium at Ulster Hill Climb Championships

Darnell Moore (Caldwell Cycles) has won another Ulster Hill Climb Championships after proving best on Benbradagh Mountain, Dungiven, Co Derry, last night.

The championships were run by Roe Valley Cycling Club on a 2.06km ascent that topped out at gradients of 29 per cent, with the battle for the medals proving very tight.

Moore, a former Irish elite cyclocross champion and former U23 Irish road race champion, clocked a time of 8:46, which was just three second faster than Ronan McLaughlin of Dan Morrissey -Pactimo.

McLaughlin was riding the title race 10 years to the day he competed for Ireland in the elite men's road race at the World Championships in Valkenburg and just a couple of weeks after breaking the Dublin to Derry record which had stood for 58 years.

Gareth O'Neill rounded out the podium last night to make it a 1-3 for Caldwell Cycles, just seven seconds down on the winner. Paul Antoine Hagan (Banbridge CC) just missed out on a medal by four seconds.
