David Montgomery has been flying the flag for Ireland and showing off his combined elite and U23 national champion's jersey on the international cyclocross scene in recent weeks.
Having competed on the road for the Belgian Continental-ranked squad Team 3M in 2015, he also rides cyclocross for Chainreactioncycles - one of his long term backers.
He contested his latest event today, Sunday, in Belgium.
He took to the line in the U23 race at the Bpost Bank Trofee Koppenbergcross in front of a massive crowd assembled to watch the best U23s, elite men and elite women in their respective events.
Montgomery ran out a very respectable 36th of the 59 finishers.

And though he was seven minutes down he told stickybottle before setting out for Europe it would take some time to get used to the higher level he is now racing at.
He has also been at a disadvantage in that the cyclocross season only started in Ireland the week before he left for Belgium a fortnight ago.

However, the lack of racing at home that would have made him stronger before departure did not deter him.
And he was 36th in the first race of his trip abroad; at Ardooie, Belgium, on October 15th .
Following on from that he was 22nd in Bredene two days later and took a very respectable 16th in Zingem the day after that, October 18th.
Keen to get as many European races in during the month he is away, Montgomery then travelled from Belgium to Holland for the Kiremko Nacht van Woerden on October 20th, where he was 27th.
And on October 20th at the Superprestige U23 race in Zonhoven, Belgium, he finished in 34th place.
