The Mondello Series, run by Usher Irish Road Club for about 15 years, has been saved from the brink of being lost. A new arrangement has been put in place, with the agreement of Cycling Ireland and host venue Mondello Park, Co Kildare.

There was alarm last month when Usher Irish Road Club announced that, for a variety of reasons, it was stepping back from organising the series in 2025.

That raised the very real prospect the series would be lost, just as the new season approached. But now new club, Dublin Ravens CC, has effectively swooped in to the rescue.

On hearing the series was facing being lost, the club began to formulate plans. And while the full details are not yet available, stickybottle has confirmed a Mondello Series, perhaps with some changes, will take place this year.

The development is good news, and a major relief, for the road racing scene. If such an established series, on a motor racing circuit, was lost it would have been a major blow for domestic racing, which has already been under pressure in recent years.

Usher Irish Road Club did a fantastic job with the series for very many years and now hopefully Dublin Ravens CC will be able to take up the mantel, even though they have big boots to fill.

The positive news comes after Cycling Ireland confirmed in recent weeks it was very hopeful progress could be made and a new race promoter could be found.

We'll bring you all the details when he have them but, for now, we wish Dublin Ravens all the best with their new plans.
