The Mondello Series, promoted by Usher Irish Road Club, is being discontinued after about 15 years. The host club explained that logistical difficulties, and falling numbers, have conspired to force its hand.
The racing series ran through the season, with events held on Wednesday nights at the Mondello Park motor racing circuit in Co Kildare. It was open to all categories and was run on a handicapped basis.
However, Usher Irish Road Club said a number of circumstances had conspired against the series continuing, with last year's races the concluding series.
"After 15 or so years, Usher Insulations Irish Road Club have decided to conclude the Mondello Series," the club said in a statement. "We have had an amazing time over the years delivering events for what was initially a replacement for the Phoenix Park races.
"(We) are so grateful to our hosts, Mondello Park, who facilitated us for so long and trusted us to deliver events, particularly during the pandemic when not much else was permitted and in a safe and secure environment.
"Alas, in recent times, the logistical effort began to take it's toll and, coupled with dwindling numbers, it became apparent for us volunteers that rushing to get to Mondello in rush hour traffic from Dublin just isn’t enjoyable anymore.
"Special thanks to our fellow volunteers who committed their time so selflessly throughout the years for the enjoyment of others and finally, thanks to the competitors who took part in the series.
"We hope you enjoyed it and that it won't be long before a suitable alternative emerges for the mid week gallops."
