Mondello Series cycling: Luke Kearney takes victory on a very wet Mondello Park in Co Kildare this evening (Photo: Sean Rowe)
The heavens opened on Mondello Park in Co Kildare this evening resulting in a much smaller field for the latest round of the Mondello Series.
However, while just 18 riders turned
out, the racing was no less fierce and victory was just as valuable.
Luke Kearney emerged the winner; taking
victory for South East Road Club just ahead of a chasing trio of A1 riders.
Kearney took it by several lengths from Cian
Keogh (Ciclotel Travel) and Paul Norton (Strata 3-VeloRevolution).
The racing was split into two groups of nine; one
comprised of A3 and A4 riders and the scratch group made up of A1s and A2s.
When the groups merged it was four of the A1 and A2
riders who pressed on to fight it out for victory.
Kearney came away with the spoils, relegating A1 men
Keogh and Norton to the remaining places on the podium.
Paul O’Reilly (Dan Morrissey-MIG-Pactimo) was the unlucky
rider in the breakaway; coming away with 4th place and so just out of the
prizes.
The unplaced A3 prize went to Richard Grant (Sundrive
Track Team) while best A4 rider was Pat Dowling (Naas Cycling Club).
