Milo Donaldson (Killarney Cycling Club) has taken a fine win in the Galway Classic, run over bog roads with gravel sectors, in Co Galway this afternoon.

The Kerry rider had plenty of time to savour his success as he forged clear solo and had an advantage of almost one minute over the chasers vying for the minor placings.

Donaldson broke clear at the Ryehill sector at the end of the first lap. And though he made a clean break, on his own, his advantage over the group stayed at between 15 and 20 seconds for a long time.

However, he pushed on solo and as he approached Stonehall for the second time, less than 10km from the finish, he had managed to extend his advantage and was looking more likely to win.

He negotiated the final gravel sector safely, in what was the first rain-hit edition of the race, to claim the win by 55 seconds.

Tim O'Regan (All human-VeloRevolution) was 2nd, with Michael Phelan (Spellman Dublin Port) in 3rd; both finishing on their own after a very hard day out.
