Michael O'Loughlin has put in a TT ride at the Youth Tour of Assen that very much marks him out as one to watch internationally. He is photographed here as the first rider in the FBD Talent Team 2020 kit, though is riding in the Assen tour for the Canyon Young Heroes international team.
Ireland's Michael O'Loughlin of the Iverk Produce Carrick Wheelers club finished a superb second on the second stage of the Youth Tour of Assen in Holland.
O'Loughlin, who is under 16, was beaten by Niklas Larsen (Slagelse CR) by a mere 0.63 seconds on the 6.7kilometre TT course. The Irish youngster's team mate on the Canyon Young Heroes squad, Mikkel Frohlich took third on the stage, at 8.41 seconds.
The result saw Larsen reclaim the yellow jersey.
The course was pan flat and well-suited to the Carrick on Suir youngster. The out-and-back journey, with a headwind for the outward stretch followed by a tailwind home saw O'Loughlin clock 8 minutes 38 seconds, just a fraction slower than Larsen's, who shot around in 8.38.310.
