After claiming 3rd yesterday, Irish champion Mia Griffin (Roland Le Dévoluy) only narrowly missed a first World Tour career win at Tour of Chongming Island in China today, Wednesday.
The Irish woman came through strong in the sprint into Chongming, passing former world champion Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) but just running out of road to get past Sofie van Rooijen (UAE Team ADQ).
That 2nd place today is the third World Tour podium of Griffin's career and underlines her further development this season. And with one stage remaining, the Kilkenny woman has a final chance to reach up and get that big win.
She already has two wins under her belt this season, including a stage victory at Tour El Salvador (2.1) in April and in the road race at the National Road Championships in Co Meath in June.
More to come.
