Jonathan Milan (Lidl Trek) has taken the second stage victory of his Giro today, with Tim Merlier (Soudal QuickStep) crossing the line in 2nd place but soon being relegated by the commissaires for the manner he switched across the road in the final sprint.
When Merlier came off the wheel of his lead-out man, he veered to his right all the way across the road, in an apparent bid to try and close the door on anyone on that side.
However, while that plan worked, he could not stop Milan to his left, as the Italian rider got a clear run to the line and was too strong for Meriler.
The relegation of the Belgian bumped up Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) to 2nd place and Giovanni Lonardi (Team Polti Kometa) to 3rd after 207km of racing from Foiano di Val Fortore to Francavilla al Mare.
? A very hectic final kilometer, with a massive crash in the middle of the sprint, but a pure display of sheer power from the fastest man of this race
