Caleb McGreevy (VC Glendale) and Emer Heverin (All human-VeloRevolution) have led the way in the U16 races on the opening day of the National Cyclocross Championships in Co Galway today.
Promoted by Ballinasloe Cycling Club, at Fair Green, Ballinasloe, the cold snap that swept across the country over the last week had, mercifully, cleared before the first of this year's title races got underway today.
McGreevy finished out front solo in the U16 boys race, taking the gold medal from Shane O'Brien (Fermoy CC) and Rian McCrystal (Bear Group), who took silver and bronze respectively.
Heverin claimed victory in the U16 girls race from Katie Turner of Orwell Wheelers, with Aoife Craig of VC Glendale rounding out the podium in the bronze medal position.
More to come on the U14 races, the Masters 50 and 60 events. The elite, juniors and Masters 40 races take place at the same venue tomorrow.
