McGlinchey goes from A4 to A2 in four weeks after another win at 'Danny Boy Races'

Christopher McGlinchey's name may be new to most on the road racing scene this year, but the Chainreaction Cycles rider has introduced himself with a bang in recent weeks.

And after his latest win, at the Danny Boy Races in Derry today, Sunday; he now moves up to the A2 ranks having started the season just four weeks ago as an A4 rider.

While he has ridden on the road before, he is best known for his exploits off-road.

But last month he signalled his fantastic road form at present when he took two victories in two days at the Phoenix GP in Co Antrim and the Annaclone GP in Banbridge.

In Feeney, Co Derry, today he bridged across to a three-man breakaway on his own; joining up with Chris Hutchinson (Team Madigan), Emmet Vallely (Square Wheels) and Andrew Graham (Omagh Wheelers).

McGlinchey managed to shake off the bunch and catch the three leaders before the first 12.5 mile lap of the race was completed.

And while very promising junior Jake Grey (NRPT-Magnet.ie) took a leaf out of McGlinchey's book and bridged across from bunch to break solo, the eventual winner had already struck for home.

He put his head down and was a clear winner, with Gray taking 2nd.

Hutchinson was the only one of the original breakaway men to last the distance and take a prize, rounding out the podium in 3rd place.

Strongest of those who missed the breakaway was the emerging Carn Wheelers man Marc Geary. A junior rider, he took 4th on the day having ridden very well on his way to 2nd place in the Spires GP last weekend.
