Chris McGlinchey has gotten the New Year off to a winning start by taking victory in the elite men’s race at the Ulster Cyclocross Championship today.
The Vitus Pro Cycling Team man topped the podium from his
new team mate, and former elite Irish champion, Darnell Moore.
Completing a very strong podium on the day was the rising
U23 rider, and former junior national champion, Thomas Creighton of McConvey
Cycles.
It may have been McGlinchey’s first cyclocross race of
the season but he has been training hard for the road campaign ahead and looked
in good form today.
While McGlinchey ran out the eventual winner it was Moore
who made the early running, pressing hard at the front on the opening two laps.
On the third circuit Moore went into the pits for a bike
change while McGlinchey opted to bypass changing.
That saw the order at the front reversed, with McGlinchey
going into the lead.
Once he got his nose in front the former downhill champion turned road pro did his best to keep the pressure on over the next three laps.
And in the end his best was good enough; McGlinchey taking the victory after six laps from Moore and Creighton.
More to follow.
