Cormac Mcgeough, the Irish elite international who finished 2nd at Rás Tailteann last year, has claimed his first ever stage victory on the race, winning stage 3 of the 2024 edition into Cahir today.
After losing time yesterday on the road to Sneem, and falling out of contention in the fight for the yellow jersey, the Canel’s Java rider made it into the breakaway today and then attacked in the closing kilometres for a solo victory.
He was just seconds ahead of the other breakaway men, with John Buller (Spellman Dublin Port) winning the sprint for 2nd place from Odhran Doogan of Team Ireland. But, aside from another Irish stage win on the race, the real talking point was the gains made by general classification dangerman George Peden (Team PB Performance).

Peden took flight yesterday from the chasing group behind winner and runner-up Conn McDunphy (Skyline Cadence) and Liam O'Brien (Team Ireland), gaining valuable seconds, and today he made a big move in the general classification.
At the time of writing it looked like he had not done enough to take the yellow jersey - held today by Dom Jackson of Foran CC - but he is now much closer to it thanks to making the breakaway on the road to Cahir today.
More to come.
