Bryan McCrystal has romped to a fine victory in the Davis Cup in Claremorris, Co Mayo, this afternoon.

The Team ASEA rider saw off the brave challenge of Sean Lacey (Aquablue) after both went clear of the day’s escape midway through the 125-kilometre race.

McCrystal saw himself clear alone after he attacked Lacey on lap three and powered for home, crossing the line with a staggering six minutes to spare on the Tralee man.

The remnants of the original break and the bunch came in further back.

The Cunga CC-promoted event was the fourth round of the National Road Series, with McCrystal already having won the Wallace Caldwell Memorial up north earlier this month.

The fact he has raced – and won – outside his ‘home’ province twice means he doesn’t need to race outside Leinster for the rest of the series.

Criteria set out by the organisers of the newly formed series stipulates that riders must race in at least two provinces aside from their own for their results to stand.
