David McCann has decided to prolong his 2012 season and has been riding well at the Tour of Fuzhou (UCI 2.2) in China, vey much being the man of the race on today’s second stage.

The RTS Racing rider dropped the entire 200-man field bar one rider on the final climb close to the finish today, Monday.

However, while he eventually distanced his breakaway companion – 21-year-old Ki Ho Choi – on the descent off the 700 metre climb, the Hong Kong rising star managed to claw his way back up to the Irishman and then beat him in the sprint for the stage win. McCann was second, with the next group some 30 seconds back.

The stage winner was recently third overall in the Tour of Taihu Lake (UCI 2.1) and also took the young riders’ classification in that event. He also took victory in the Tour of Korea (UCI 2.2) last year.

The opening stage in China yesterday, Sunday, was won by Alois Kanonsky of Czech team Dukla Praha. McCann is now second overall just four seconds off the lead with one stage remaining.

The race is based in Fuzhou, the capital of East China's Fujian province.

McCann had planned to bow out of international competition after the UCI 2.1 eight-day Tour of Taihu Lake which ended the week before last in China. However, having finished fifth in the general classification there he decided to prolong his season and make the best of his late season form.
