Matteo Cigala has begun the new season, and his new team's tenure in the Irish peloton, in the best way possible; taking victory in the Lacey Cup, Co Kerry.
Matteo Cigala wins Lacey Cup first race of cycling season
Cycling Ireland top A1 ranked rider of the year in 2017, Matteo Cigala has gotten his 2018 campaign off to a fantastic start with victory in the Lacey Cup in Co Kerry.
The former Italian U23 international is now riding with Viner-Caremark–Pactimo.
Last year’s Planet X Carnac and Aqua Blue Academy teams have amalgamated into the outfit.
And it has now started its time in the peloton with a win.
Cigala proved too strong at the finish for breakaway companions Paul Kennedy (Newcastle West CC) and Tom Shanahan (Limerick CC).
Kennedy ran him close, with Shanahan a couple of seconds back rounding out the podium
The rest of the road races planned for this opening weekend of the season were cancelled due to snow.
More to come.
