
Martyn Irvine has had a scorcher of a day at the World Track Championships in Minsk, Belarus; taking silver in the individual pursuit and then scooping the gold medal in the scratch race despite having just over half an hours rest in between.
The new Unitedhealthcare road professional, but representing Ireland at the Worlds, was well beaten by Australian Michael Hepburn in the gold medal ride off in the pursuit at 5pm Irish time.
But he clearly had plenty more in the tank and showed his class by taking the gold medal and rainbow jersey in the 15km scratch race immediately after taking his silver.
With 10 laps to go the 27-year-old from Newtownards, Co Down, attacked the field in what would prove the winning move.
