Ireland's Dan Martin is well poised for an all-out assault on the yellow jersey in Spain.
Having won stage 2 of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana in Spain on Thursday, Dan Martin finished in the main bunch on Friday.
Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNl-Jumbo) took victory at the head of the main bunch after 173km into Alzira, with Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) taking 2nd.
Martin (Etixx-QuickStep) finished in 40th place on the same time as the winner and holds 13th overall and his lead in the climber's competition head of the queen stage on Saturday.
At 141km, it contains one cat 3 climb, two cat 2 ascents and then a cat 1, with just the descent to the finish to come after the final summit, making any regrouping almost impossible.
