Mark Shannon has taken victory in the Gerry McVeigh GP in Bullan, Co Galway, on a day when the heavens opened on the races.
The Burren CC man was part of a small breakaway that emerged on the first lap of six of the 16.5km circuit.
And though Eoghan McArdle Ruane (Galway Bay CC) put in a very strong solo effort in a bid for glory late in the race, he was reeled in by the chasers on the run-in to the finish.
At the chequered flag it came down to a sprint from three breakaway survivors, won by Shannon from McArdle Ruane and Mitchell McLaughlin of Four Masters CC.
Those three had emerged best of the breakaway that went clear on the opening lap and stayed away all the way, attacking each other late in the contest.
In the A3 race Gary Frehill (Collins Cycling Centre)
won from John Kelly (Castlebar
CC) and John Boyne (Lakeside Wheelers).
The A4 contest was won by Barry Kivlehan (Ballina CC) from Kevin Molyneaux of promoting club Challenge CC and Patrick Murtagh (Ballina CC).
